Well! I am writing after so long and again I am out of words. Firstly I would like to wish you all a very happy New year. 2020 was really a crazy year and covid, Oh God! I can’t say anything about it. I myself got covid-19. Now some of you, who know me personally might be thinking how. Well here is the entire story. The BCI ( Bar Council of India) sometimes releases notifications which makes no sense and when the entire courts functioning was going online the court passed the judgment allowing the university to take offline exams and I was the victim of that exam.
During the lockdown, I rarely left my home but I had to go for my end term examinations because I didn’t have much of a choice and it was because of that I got Covid and I had to spend about 1.5 months in solitude. I lived all alone in a 4- floor building with a pigeon and some rats. Yeah, my Pg has lots of rats and they were my companions during my covid struggle. Well, it was due to living alone or covid, I am not sure what, but I lost my interest in doing anything and I no more feel interested in doing anything. However, today I finally got the courage to write something and I hope I will continue writing on a daily basis. I have so many things to talk about but today I am going to talk about the compulsory viva that’s part of our curriculum and comprises of 100 marks.
Now, I don’t know why we have a provision of this 100 marks viva. Before talking about it I will start with what happens in this viva. It’s like an interview, where all the subject teacher sits together and asks questions to a student. It feels good and is really interesting because it really helps to keep you on your feet and boosts confidence. But it just tests the rattafication power of a student. If a person has good mugging memory he can tell all the answers and if not that person might look like a fool. But like our education system is( which is useless) this viva is useless. When we talk about learning law, we all know how to read books and how to interpret things because we have continuously being taught about interpreting logic our literature texts and what not and interpreting the law is kind of same. Different people have different interpretations and it is why if we go with the same case before a judge with a substantial question of law, there might be different and contradictory judgments and both backed by law and logic, It is because of the different interpretations. So the most important thing is the application. If someone wants to really check how much someone knows about something he/she should check for the application. Because reading about surgery and doing surgery are two different things and such questions whether in exams or viva will force the students to think on their feet and at the same time will make them a knowledgable human who will know how to apply that thing in life. Which should have been the focus of our education system from the beginning. Well, I think its time to log out. Thank you for reading this. Will try to write about something interesting tomorrow.
Nice post
