I finally got back to Nainital today for celebrating Deepawali (an Indian Festival of lights) and while wandering in the market today on this auspicious day of Dhanteras (The first day of Diwali) I realised something, something really interesting and I would like to share the same with you.
Well today on the market it was too chaotic, people were all over the market buying things, and it was something like what you don’t see every day. Seeing all this commotion it really hit me and I started comparing the scenery with the Christmas scenes, I have seen in movies. If you compare them you will find them almost similar and not only that one can find the same kind of scenes before Eid (the muslim festival) and thinking all this made me realise that how much similar we are to each other.
When I started contemplating over the same I got sad, I don’t understand how this all happened but we have created a society where we have cultural gaps, we have a feeling of ethnocentrism and if we look back at history we see that our religious leaders have tried to convert people and made them follow their religious beliefs. If we look at the base of these religious activities we can see that all our festivals are based on the same footing, we do almost everything in a similar way, we have a common way of celebrating our festivals. For example we could find cake during Christmas, Sevai during Eid and kheer or gujiya during Hindu festivals, see all these things are sweet and have the same purpose that is creating sweetness in the mind and heart of people.
We even go to churches on Christmas, Mosques on Eid and temples on deepawali or holi and there we pray for the well being of humanity, we pray for our own good and the good of others. But unfortunately having these different religions has made us envious with each other, there is a feeling of hatred for people following other religions, we have divided society on the basis of colour, caste, sex and whatever we could, and this is all because of the difference in religion. Not only is this responsible for creating hatred among people but also for the communal tensions and the death of many. Religion is not something worth fighting for; it’s just a guidance one could utilize for one’s own or other’s well being. People are killing each other on the name of Jihad, animals are being slaughtered in the name of Bali and a lot more is happening everyday and we are allowing it to happen.
What I believe is that there should be a single religion and we should name it humanity, this religion should entirely be based on co-operation and love, when these various religions can have the same fundamental base why can’t we all just live as one and create this World a much more better and amazing place. With such a co-operation not only will we have a highly developed society but we all will have an amazing life.
